Jazz in the Treasure Valley (Boise area)

 

The Boise Jazz Society has announced its 2009-10 subscription concert series.  Click on the link at the bottom of this page to download the flyer and membership application, or see http://boisejazzsociety.com/bjsjazzmail/index.html for details.  Recent performances were the Benny Green Trio on Sept 13; the Dana DeRose Trio (Feb 21) and still to come Martin Taylor (March 28).  All performances are at the Esther Simplot Performing Arts Academy in Boise, $45/concert, and start at 7 pm.  For further information on BJS membership contact Mike Samball at 208.426.3498, or msamball@boisestate.edu.

 

The 13th Annual Gene Harris Jazz Festival will take place April 22-24, 2010 in various locations on the Boise State University campus.  See full details at www.geneharris.org

 

Jazz Jam at the Reef has unfortunately been canceled - at least at this venue.  James Brownson hopes to resurrect it soon.  Watch this space for details when they become available.

 

Flatbread Commnity Oven Pizzeria, one of IJS' business sponsors, has opened a third Treasure Valley location in downtown Boise, 615 W. Main, 208.287.4757.  They'll be featuring live jazz on Wednesday evenings beginning March 10.  See calendar.  Note that they'll continue to have live jazz also at their East Boise location at Bown Crossing, as well as their Meridian location.  

 

Jazz in the Magic Valley (Twin Falls area)

 

The Tuesday evening jam sessions at Pandora's restaurant have unfortunately been cancelled as of Feb 16, 2010.  The management has decided it can no longer afford to host the twice-monthly sessions :-(.   However, Pandoras's still features live jazz most weekends! 

 

Brent Jensen will be playing every week with Adam Crofts (bass) and Steve Cox (drums) at the Java Coffee Shop in the CSI Student Union building on Thursdays, beginning at 3 pm.  These sessions will begin in 2010, and continue through the semester until May 6. 

 

Announcing the 4th annual Great Basin Jazz Camp to be held July 12-16, 2010 at the College of Southern Idaho, Twin Falls.  This is the only Jazz Camp in the state of Idaho.  Visit their website, www.greatbasinjazzcamp.com for more details.
