Scholarships

Scholarship Assistance:  Applicants wanted:  Note that filing deadlines are June 15 (for fall semester) and December 15 (spring semester)

Two types of scholarships for jazz education may be available:

(1) A group scholarship typically awarded to a band or HS music class wanting to attend a jazz camp.  This is typically a one-time non-recurring event.

(2) An individual scholarship:  If you are an aspiring jazz musician or music educator from Idaho, and wish to further your music education, there may be scholarship funds available to assist you. To be considered, you must be a declared music major at a recognized college or university, either in performance or in education, and must have and maintain a GPA of at least 3.0 (on a 4.0 scale).

Can a scholarship be renewed for a 2nd semester?  The typical amount of an individual scholarship award is $500 per semester, but it can be more or less depending on available funds, individual merit, etc.  It may be renewed for the second semester provided the following conditions are met:

            GPA of at least 3.0

Continuation in a jazz music curriculum

            Recommendation of faculty adviser

Recommendation of a teacher or private instructor

It is the responsibility of the applicant to ensure that the renewal information is submitted by the deadline in order to ensure approval prior to the start of the second semester.

Can a scholarship be renewed for a new year?  At present, renewal for subsequent years (beyond the second semester) requires submitting a new application.

What if my school is on the quarter system?  The maximum amount awarded to an individual is typically $1000 per year.  So you can expect that the amount awarded (assuming a three-quarter school year) will be $335 for each of the first two terms, and $330 for the final term.

Disclaimers:

1.       The typical scholarship award of $500 is not guaranteed.  It may be adjusted (up or down) based on available funds, as well as qualifications of the applicant.

2.       We typically require that a plurality of applications be on file in order to maintain objectivity in the selection process.

3.       Family members of the Idaho Jazz Society officers and board members are not eligible.

If a scholarship is of interest to you, please click on the link below to download the Scholarship Application Form, complete it and mail it in for consideration by the Idaho Jazz Society Scholarship Approval Committee.  Note that applications for the fall semester must be received no later than June 15 for consideration.  Renewal applications for the spring semester must be received by December 15 for consideration.
